Fighting Gravity is my next big story. Hopefully it'll be different enough from Only in Hyrule to avoid being overshadowed.

Final Title: Fighting Gravity

Chapters: 30+

Rating: 15+

Genres: Action/Adventure/Drama/Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Steampunk

Pairings: Undecided, but probably Zelink. ...Duh.

Started: 'Round May 2007

Estimated finish time: Hahaha. God knows when. Probably late 2008, at this rate. I want to finish writing at least 60% of it so I can start posting around early 2008, but don't hold your breath.

Basic setting: Pure AU, Fighting Gravity is set in a futuristic Hyrule, where technology has evolved. The Hylian Alliance, which had until then united the eight countries of Twilight, Calatia, Holodrum, Labrynna, Hyrule, Termina, Minish and Waker is falling apart, shattered by the Guardian Alliance, self-proclaimed Guardian of the Future. Civil war has taken the Hylian Alliance and divided what had until then been strong friendships.

The Old Hylian annotations are merely for my entertainment. The purely fictitious language might appear (or not) in the narrative of FG, though it won't play a large role and merely be there to add a dimension to the history of the world.

Plot: The story mainly follows Captain Link Forester and his subordinates, mechanic Sheik and navigator Colin, of the weakened Hylian Alliance Air Force, as they struggle to bring peace to troubled times alongside a fugitive princess, a young aristocrat savant, a pickpocket, and some other colourful characters.

Inspiration: A mix of many futuristic/fantasy/action works have made me eager to try the genre, amongst which we find Star Wars, Last Exile, Final Fantasy XII, and a few others. I also have always wanted to write a story about traveling, which isn't easy to render in a oneshot, so there's my excuse.

Make note, however, that Fighting Gravity is in no way a crossover or copy with/of any of the above works. The setting and plot are entirely related to Legend of Zelda characters and places, with no insertion of characters that don't belong to that particular universe. There will be no Tatooine, vanships or chocobos. At best, Hyrule, aircrafts and cuckoos.

Characters

(Note: All pictures and profiles are drawn and written by me, CrazygurlMadness. If you want to borrow the pictures, I don't mind as long as you tell me you did.)

Link Forester
Link Forester
Captain of the Hylian Alliance Air Force
Name: Link Forester
Age: Mid-twenties
Hair: Dark blonde
Eyes: Blue
Race: Hylian
Residence: Wherever the job takes him; his grandmother's house on Outset Island in Waker.
Skills: Agile pilot; excellent racer.
Occupation: Hylian Alliance Air Force captain.
Origins: Link grew up on Outset, during peaceful times. He built his own lightweight aircraft by the age of fourteen and was participating in regional races by the age of sixteen. His love of flying turned him into an excellent racer. When the war began, he joined the Army with his friend Sheik, a mechanic, in the hopes that they'd get funds for a larger engine. Soon disappointed, Link nevertheless got noticed for his excellent piloting skills, which got him promoted to the rank of captain.
Personality: Leader-like, a little immature at times, but mostly good-natured. He has a darker side, one that is either cynical and borderline morbid or aggressive and mistrusting. He also suffers from a mild case of recklessness. Generally, though, he fights his impulses and covers up his flaws with good humour and a genuine desire to help and protect.
Family/Friends: His grandmother and his sister Aryll/ his mechanic Sheik and his navigator Colin.
Likes: Flying, grilled Odd Mushrooms, adrenalin rushes.
Dislikes: War, losing races, uncertainty.
Hopes: To keep flying.
Zelda Harkinian
Zelda Harkinian
Princess of Hyrule
Name: Zelda Harkinian
Age: Twenty-three
Hair: Blonde
Eyes: Blue
Race: Hylian
Residence: Citadel of Time, Castleton, Hyrule.
Skills: Convincing public speaker; bright tactician
Occupation: Princess of Hyrule
Origins: Zelda was raised to become queen for the whole of her life. After her father’s death, she was brought to the throne without a coronation to keep the country as steady as possible. It was a difficult time for her, and instead of flourishing, she withered a little from the stress and pressure. While she formed many friendships with other leaders and monarchs, the war strained her relationships with the few friends she had.
Personality: Gentle, with strong aspirations for peace and good. She tends to overanalyse or push off decision-making for fear of choosing the wrong path. She fears the immensity of the world, and is introspective enough to understand her flaws, which is all the more frustrating, as she is confident everyone else can see them, so glaring are they to her. She reactively crafted a cool, collected mask, one that covers up a frightened and slowly crumbling self.
Family/Friends: No living relatives / her fellow Hyrulian politician Renado, and aristocrat bookkeeper Shad.
Likes: Learning new things, children, her pet Wulf.
Dislikes: Condescension, emergencies, posing for portraits.
Hopes: To restore peace to Hyrule.
Sheik Strike
Sheik Strike
Sergeant and mechanic of the Hylian Alliance Air Force
Name: Sheik Strike
Age: Mid-twenties
Hair: Pale blonde
Eyes: Brownish red
Race: Sheikah
Residence: Wherever the job takes him.
Skills: Talented mechanic; good pilot.
Occupation: Hylian Alliance Air Force sergeant.
Origins: Not much is known of Sheik’s past, only that he was ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** *****. His natural talent for building and repairing things soon got him a job as assistant mechanic around the age of eleven. He spent the next few years gathering enough money to build his own aircraft and start participating in races to make more money. It was during this time that he met Link and they became friends and partners. Ever since ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** *****, he follows Link on his errands, which usually involves fixing things.
Personality: Quiet, usually, though sometimes his overall calm can be broken by spurts of annoyance or anger. He knows his exact worth and doesn’t make a habit of overstepping his bounds. He keeps a brotherly eye on those close to him, providing flawless loyalty and reliability. He makes a point of staying one step ahead of everyone else, and is irritated by those who sweep the carpet from under his feet or those who doubt his capacity.
Family / Friends: No known relatives / His captain Link, their navigator Colin.
Likes: Making predictions, fixing machines, races.
Dislikes: The Guardian Alliance, arrogance, unexpected turns.
Hopes: To destroy the Guardian Alliance.
Colin Blade
Colin Blade
Navigator in the Hylian Alliance Air Force
Name: Colin Blade
Age: Seventeen
Hair: Blonde
Eyes: Blue
Race: Hylian
Residence: Wherever the job takes him; ********, ******.
Skills: Sharp navigator; keen tactician.
Occupation: Hylian Alliance Air Force soldier.
Origins: ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** *****. His understanding of coordinates and more intellectual matters helped him become one of the youngest navigators in the Air Force, and he was soon taken under the wing of Link and Sheik.
Personality: Reserved and shy, he doesn’t have a speck of evil in him. While he understands the limits he imposes on himself, he aspires to become stronger and looks up to Link and Sheik, whom he considers brothers, but not if it involves holding a gun to someone with the intent to kill. He notices a lot but doesn’t act on what he notices, mostly out of prudishness and respect for other peoples’ problems and secrets. He is kind and patient before all.
Family / Friends: His father Rusl, his mother Uli / His captain Link, and their mechanic Sheik.
Likes: Quiet, flying, being near friends.
Dislikes: Confrontation, feelings of inadequacy, violence.
Hopes: To become like Link and Sheik.
 Shad Knowing
Shad Knowing
Princess Zelda's bookkeeper
Name: Shad Knowing
Age: Mid-twenties
Hair: Auburn
Eyes: Grey blue
Race: Hylian
Residence: Citadel of Time, Castleton, Hyrule; Sky City Celestia, Hyrule.
Skills: Great memory, excellent concentration.
Occupation: Bookkeeper for princess Zelda.
Origins: ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** *****, which caused Shad to find refuge in Castleton, where he became Zelda's confidant and bookkeeper.
Personality: While he appears mild-mannered and almost flippant at times, his visceral being is stubborn as a mule. He takes almost everything seriously, and he finds offensive or doubtful remarks towards his excellent education outrageous. He isn't as observant as he'd like, but his loyalty and genuine care for one of his only friends, the princess, makes him indispensable to the young monarch, whom he regards as the family he no longer has.
Family / Friends: *** ******, ******** / Princess Zelda and a Sky City mechanic, Malon.
Likes: Books, philosophy, life's little comforts.
Dislikes: *** ******, seeing Zelda upset, the defacing of books.
Hopes: To protect Zelda as long as she needs him to.

Kidd
No specific profession

Name: Kidd ******
Age: Mid-teens
Hair: Dark blonde
Eyes: Blue
Race: Hylian
Residence: An orphanage in Castleton, Hyrule
Skills: Impressive pickpocket, good tailing abilities.
Occupation: Small-time thief.
Origins: Kidd has only ever known the small orphanage where he was abandoned many years ago, the streets of Castleton, and peoples' pockets, for which her early on showed an appreciation. He's one of the oldest children in the orphanage lead by Ilia Heart, and is lucky in that he knows of one of his relatives, his brother, who is a Ground Forces captain, as the orphanage records say.
Personality: Defiant, somewhat impressionable, and full of surprises. He may be a little childish, but he's also street-wise and understands the common man better than most. He can easily establish patterns and blend in a crowd, or boisterously be noticed and make a ruckus. He has ambitions to find his brother and doesn't allow himself to fear the obstacles that may lay ahead. He isn't very knowledgeable, but he's smart and knows and opportunity when he sees one.
Family / Friends: His brother / the orphanage children Beth, Talo and Malo.
Likes: Money, sleep, food.
Dislikes: Getting caught, underestimation, pity.
Hopes: To find his brother.
Malon Ranch
Malon Ranch
Mechanic and medic in the Sky City Celestia
Name: Malon Ranch
Age: Mid-twenties
Hair: Red
Eyes: Blue
Race: Hylian
Residence: A repair shop in Celestia, Hyrule.
Skills: Excellent mechanic, good healer.
Occupation: Mechanic, controller and part-time medic in the Sky City's maintenance team.
Origins: When Malon's father, Talon Ranch, decided to join the Sky City development project, she followed.Growing up amidst machines turned her into an apt mechanic and she learned medical treatments from working in her father's health care unit. She was Shad's childhood friend. Her father's recent death ***** ***** ***** made her question her reason for staying in the Sky City.
Personality: A tomboy, she is both teasing and caring. A heart of gold makes her an ideal friend, but deep down she's insecure and the war worries her. She tends to seek a middle-ground for her stances but if she chooses a side, she'll be radical. She's protective and wishes she could be of more help. She had dreams of flying, but her job keeps her metaphorically grounded; she's the kind who works hard and daydreams of other things meanwhile.
Family / Friends: No living relatives / Shad and the few mechanics on her unit.
Likes: Clouds, repairing complex engines, helping people.
Dislikes: Feeling useless, being surpassed in what she does best, storms.
Hopes: To be swept off her feet by a prince, like in the old stories.
Dark Knight
Dark Knight
Captain of the Guardian Alliance Marine Force
Name: Dark Knight
Age: Twenty-eight
Hair: Black
Eyes: Brown
Race: Hylian
Residence: Most Guardian Alliance Marine Forces battleships.
Skills: Impressive sense of deduction; great marksman.
Occupation: Guardian Alliance Marine Force captain.
Origins: Dark doesn’t talk much about his past. He has little standing and appeared on the doorstep of the Military Academy one evening, with no words about his story beforehand. His tactical abilities and marksmanship ensured him a position as captain, and he befriended a fellow trainee, Nabooru, while turning into a seducer and brilliant officer.
Personality: Cynically cheerful and a real libertine, he tends to contradict himself, notably by joining the army. He has no defined sense of self, but he thinks highly of his capacities and acts as though he’s driven by ambition, though he aspires to no set goal. He allows people to tell him what to do, mostly because he doesn’t consider he has anything better to do ―he’ll grouch about it plenty, though. His thoughts are only revealed in bits and pieces, at whim, only to a select few.
Family / Friends: No known relatives / A fellow captain, Nabooru.
Likes: Physical satisfaction, lazing around, his reflection.
Dislikes: Feeling weak, politics, responsibilities.
Hopes: For nothing definite; perhaps a good bout of sex.
Midna Black
Midna Black
Princess of Twilight
Name: Midna Black
Age: Twenty-seven
Hair: Orange
Eyes: Gold
Race: Twili
Residence: Palace of Nightfall, Twilight.
Skills: Great leader; good manipulator.
Occupation: Princess of Twilight.
Origins: Midna, like Zelda, was raised to become the leader of Twilight, but she has been at the head of her country far longer than the Hyrulian princess. She had her reasons to join the Guardian Alliance.
Personality: Confident, manipulative, and a real opportunist, she was cursed with a true desire to help her country. The only thing is that she uses more twisted paths to accomplish her goals. Her loyalty is always questionable, as she tends to act for her own profit and those she cares for, even if that implies sacrificing a few people on the way. Her mask of laughter hides a more brooding dark side and a grim outlook on the world, something she constantly tries to change.
Family / Friends: No living relatives / No current friends.
Likes: Twilight, mind games, being right.
Dislikes: Surprises, withheld information, being mistreated.
Hopes: To restore peace to Twilight.

Nabooru Spirit
Captain in the Guardian Alliance
Name: Nabooru Spirit
Age: Late twenties
Hair: Red
Eyes: Gold
Race: Gerudo
Residence: Guardian Alliance airships; Gerudo, Hyrule.
Skills: Good leader; keen listener.
Occupation: Guardian Alliance Air Force captain.
Origins: Nabooru used to hold a shop of incense, perfumes and cosmetics in the sandy desert town of Gerudo. When her shop was raided one night, she decided to learn how to defend herself, left the shop, and joined the army. There, she met Dark, whom she befriended merely by refusing to sleep with him. She went up the ranks fast enough and was soon sent to fly aircrafts and lead squads.
Personality: Surprisingly friendly, she still has a tendency to be suspicious or condescending towards those who don't go out of their way to impress her. She hates seeing her squad members die, and is on the fence about many things. Notably, she can appreciate talents, even in her worst enemies. She counters Dark's laziness by enticing him with tidbits of intormation that she gathers here and there.
Family / Friends: No living relatives / fellow captain Dark Knight.
Likes: Good drinks, scents, sparring.
Dislikes: Secret motivations, seeing her men die, mediocrity.
Hopes: To have a shop again.

Occupation: Leader and Admiral of the Guardian Alliance
Origins: ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** *****. He caused the Scission and founded the Guardian Alliance.
Personality: He's hard to seize. While some might argue that he is the worst of madmen, he is, in fact, incredibly lucid. He knows a lot more than anyone gives him credit for, but he purposely allows a few of his endeavours to fail, not that anyone quite knows why. He can make himself patient, determined yet reasonable, but whether this is his true nature or not remains to be discovered.
Family / Friends: No known relatives / No known friends.

Places

The World of Fighting Gravity

Countries and Cities

Hyrule
"Courage, Power, Wisdom."
Old Hylian: "Kyur, Brons, Entelli."
Castleton
Capital of Hyrule
Full Name: Castleton, Capital of Hyrule
Leader(s): Princess Zelda Harkinian, Admiral Auru Mage and High Priest Rauru Luz
Town Centre: Citadel of Time
Founded: Start of the First Age
Current political orientation: Hylian Alliance
Location: Central-north of Hyrule, south of the Calatian mountain range
Geographical advantage: In the middle of fields, its visibility range is unhindered in every direction for miles.
Climate: Plains
Weather: Temperate, generally sunny and warm, prone to storms brought on by the mountains in the north and east.
Economy: Bordering on bad. The war has indebted the city and weakened it greatly. Focused on agriculture and aerial trade.
Technology: Medium-advanced.
History: One of the earliest cities, it was shaped by the merging of Castleburg and Marketon at the end of Prehistory. It was a gathering of farmers before turning into an important market town, where eventually merchants became bourgeois, then aristocrats. The most powerful were named monarchs, and the influence of Castleton on the surrounding lands became the country of Hyrule. Its focus has always been to keep power and protect its people. The Citadel of Time itself is a relic of the ancient temple that is spoken of in legends.
Main races: Hylian, Sheikah, Gerudo, Goron
Layout: Circular, with outer protective wall and inner fortress (Citadel of Time)
Architecture: A mix and match of all kinds of architectures, it has no style and could be considered rather ugly. Cobblestones mix with metallic panels and grates, cement with slate, brick with glass, steel with wood. The Citadel is the only homogenous-looking building of Castleton, its tall tower visible from miles and miles anywhere in the plains of Hyrule.
Valley Village
Kakariko
Full Name: Valley Village Kakariko
Leader(s): Lord Renado Shaman
Town Centre: the Well, the Graveyard, the Hotel and the Shaman's House.
Founded: End of Prehistory
Current political orientation: Hylian Alliance
Location: Death Mountain Range, north-east of Hyrule
Geographical advantage: Nestled in the valleys at the foot of Death Mountain, it is very difficult to access, save through a few narrow and steep passages.
Climate: Mountain, canyon
Weather: Temperate. Foggy and cool during the winter, but hot and sunny in the summer, prone to rainstorms brought on by the mountains in the north and east.
Economy: Alright. Its position at the border of Minish has saved it from more dramatic economic failures.
Technology: Average
History: The first settlement of Hylians in all of Hylia, Kakariko is known for its prehistoric grayeyard and its role in developing good Hylian-Goron relations. It was the centre of the Kakariko Mercantile rule and the Sheikah Regency (supremacy of Magic users), which lasted a good century and a half during the first age, and which ended at the fall of the Sheikah Regency. Economically, its importance waned in the face of the newly formed Castleton, whose took up the powers in Hyrule. It was then the second largest town in Hyrule. As of today, it is merely a town with a good geographical advantage and a privileged access to the underground set of tunnels known unofficially as Goron City.
Main races: Hylian, Sheikah, Goron, Redead
Layout: In a narrow valley with extremely high-cliffs, the houses are packed against the cliff walls along the natural main street.
Architecture: The houses are sometimes built straight into the rock. They are old stone and wood structures, but it is not rare to see a lot of metallic cabins or electric fences. Since the buildings are so high to gain space, they seem to be falling over the street uncertainly. The frequent seisms of Death Mountain have weakened some buildings and fissures are not rare.
Gerudo
Den of the Sands
Full Name: Gerudo, Den of the Sands
Leader(s): the twins Koume and Kotake Rova
Town Centre: The Fortress
Founded: Start of the Second Age
Current political orientation: Guardian Alliance
Location: West of Hyrule, north of Samasa
Geographical advantage: Its location at the borders of Twilight, Hyrule and Holodrum make it the perfect stop for three different trade routes, not to mention a strategic outpost for whoever controls it.
Climate: Desert
Weather: Hot, sunny, windy.
Economy: Alright. The war raging near the town tends to damage its buildings, but the income is still steady.
Technology: Average.
History: Known for its typical droughts and arid dunes, Gerudo took a long time to become a fairly strong town. It now specializes in spices and perfumes, though its people still harbour greed for well-irrigated lands and cool climates. It is said that Gerudo was the birthplace of many tyrants, usurpers, dictators or murderers, but the truth was lost in time.
Main races: Gerudo, Hylian, Twili, Sheikah, Rito
Layout: Surrounded by a high stone wall to protect the town from the sandstorms, it stays in a tight maze of small, narrow streets; ideal for murder and to prevent strong winds from wiping passerbys out.
Architecture: Buildings are shaped in curves and dome-like to avoid holding up against the strong winds and the abrasion of sand. The materials are a mix of stone, slate and metal. It is mostly utilitarian and looks a good deal like Samasa.
Hidden Haven
Kokiri
Full name: Hidden Haven Kokiri
Leader(s): Mido and Saria
Town Centre: Great Deku Tree's Meadow
Founded: Middle of Prehistory
Current political orientation: Neutral/Hylian Alliance
Location: Somewhere in the Lost Woods, southeast of Hyrule.
Geographical advantage: Extremely well-hidden, so much so that hardly anyone knows it exists.
Climate: Forest
Weather: Warm and comfortable all year long.
Economy: None. Based on self-provision and arbitrary inside trade.
Technology: Primitive.
History: Formed before Kakariko, it was created by the greatest Magic users of the age, the Kokiri, whose magical strength was so great that they could remain eternally young. Shunned by jealous others, they retreated to the Lost Woods, never to be seen again.
Main races: Kokiri, Subrosian, Redead
Layout: At the centre of the haven, the Great Deku Tree and its complex of bridges and dwellings, surrounded by the houses on ground level.
Architecture: Very simplistic, the houses are made of hollowed out trees, some of which are still alive. A lot of the inhabitants also live in the massive canopy of the Deku Tree, where houses and bridges were built from wood and ropes. Decorations in natural paints often adorn the buildings, distinguishing the homes from the ordinary trees.
Sky City
Celestia
Full name: Sky City Celestia
Leader(s): ******** *******
Town Centre: Platforms B-1 to B-4.
Founded: End of the Third Age
Current political orientation: Neutral/Hylian Alliance
Location: Skies south of Hyrule, north of the Waker shores
Geographical advantage: Accessible only by air; unimpeded view for miles around.
Climate: Atmospheric
Weather: Blown by strong, cold winds, otherwise sunny.
Economy: Bordering on bad; the Guardian Alliance has damaged a few infrastructures and some debts still need to be paid.
Technology: Advanced.
History: A very recent city. Built as a challenge, its main purpose was to defy critical minds, ones that argued that a floating city was impossible. Starting with the simple platforms A-1 to A-5, which were built first to become resource docks, it expanded to include the much larger and more impressive structures B-1 to B-4 (the city core), and, recently, structures C-1 to C-3 and platforms D-1 to D-6. Platforms E-1 and E-2 are still in construction. The obsessive engineer who mapped it out is its leader and the Sky City continues to expand. For now its main population consists of engineers, mechanics, sustenance teams, and aristocrats rich enough to afford living there.
Main races: Hylian, Oocca, Rito
Layout: While the city originally fed off the lower Platform A blocks, it's actually centered around Block B, which hovers higher. Block C, D and E are attached to Block B and one another as an interconnected web.
Architecture: The Sky City Celestia floats thanks to its massive hovercrafts (the largest in the known world as of yet). Under the huge city blocks is a maze of large steel rafters and structural beams, as well as tubes, wires, cables that form a jumble of functionality and strength. Above the city, however, the buildings are clean, white, and gardens are flourishing, a result of hidden complexity.

Termina
"Standing The Test Of Time."
Old Hylian: "Stanareu le Tisno ol Tymo."
Carnival City
Clock Town
Full name: Carnival City Clock Town
Leader(s): Barthelemy (Barty) Dotour
Town Centre: Clock Tower
Founded: Start of the Second Age
Current political orientation: Hylian Alliance
Location: Middle of Termina Plain
Geographical advantage: Remote from the rest of the world, is it cut off by the Snowhead Mountain Range and the Waker ocean.
Climate: Plains
Weather: Cool and windy, but rather unchanging all-year through.
Economy: Good. It stocks the armies of the countries bordering the enemy.
Technology: Advanced.
History: Born from the mercantile agglomeration in Termina, it was built on the crossroad of all the trade routes in the country, allowing Snowhead, Great Bay and Ikana traders to meet in one common place.
Main races: Hylian, Gerudo, Zora, Goron, Oocca
Layout: Centered around the Clock Tower, it is formed by four quarters; North Clock Town is full of gardens, ponds and serves as a buffer from the cool winds descending from Snowhead; East Clock Town is home to the inns, restaurants, and the mayor's office; West Clock Town is the commercial street, and South Clock Town is the central plaza in front of the Tower. It doubles as a market. Branching off within the circular wall from South Clock Town, there is a gardened laundry pool.
Architecture: Rather plain, its walls are all part of the outer wall structure, making Clock Town seem like a single entity rather than a gathering of settlements. The buildings are generally under three stories in height; large painted patterns cover the stone and wood throughout the city. Often, houses have wooden balconies and roof terraces overlooking the main streets.
Great Bay
Trader's Cove
Full name: Great Bay, Trader's Cove
Leader(s): Toto Managing
Town Centre: Zora Hall
Founded: Start of the Second Age
Current political orientation: Hylian Alliance
Location: Shore of Termina, on the Waker Ocean.
Geographical advantage: Ideal position for internation trade, both with Hyrule to the north and Waker to the west.
Climate: Island, ocean
Weather: Temperate, never suffering from extremes, mostly in cool temperatures.
Economy: So-so; the war has made trading with the most important cities in Waker a little difficult.
Technology: Advanced.
History: Formed before Kakariko, it was created by the greatest Magic users of the age, the Kokiri, whose magical strength was so great that they could remain eternally young. Shunned by jealous others, they retreated to the Lost Woods, never to be seen again.
Main races: Hylian, Zora
Layout: Half on land and half on the water, it is either linked by boardwalks, bridges, or canals. It uses the natural rock formations for larger buildings, but it is not unusual to see floating houses.
Architecture: Grand and elegant, Great Bay is known for its marine look, Often, houses are built to recreate seashells patterns and other aquatic themes, giving the city a very organic look. Rock, stone and marble are common; combined with palms and in some cases, algae. Some buildings are built underwater and have large glass canopies.

Calatia
"Forever Strong."
Old Hylian: "Peralya Brons."
Market Town
New Kasuto
Full name: Market Town, New Kasuto
Town Leader(s): Veran Broken
Town Centre: the Market
Founded: End of Prehistory
Current political orientation: Guardian Alliance
Location: Middle of Calatian fields, north of the Death Mountain Range.
Geographical advantage: Isolated from most conflicts, it is protected by mountains on all sides.
Climate: Plains
Weather: Sunny and warm most of the time, it is blown by cool winds all year long.
Economy: Good. The war is profitable and it serves as a military base for the northern front of assault.
Technology: Average.
History: Old Kasuto, built at the end of prehistory, was eventually destroyed in the Second Age, then rebuilt as New Kasuto. It took over Castleton and Kakariko's vow of mercantilism, becoming the current most trade-based city in Hylia. When the Guardian Alliance took it, Veran Broken was named leader of the city, though against popular will.
Main races: Hylian, Sheikah, Twili, Goron, Gerudo, Rito
Layout: Medieval, it is unplanned and a little confusing, with both wide avenues and extremely narrow alleys.
Architecture: Kasuto is perhaps the city that retained the most ties to its past, in spite of its partial destruction. Often buildings are made of the original wood, stone and plaster, though it is not uncommon to see classically built edifices with columns and great halls. Classic gardens are often considered an architectural must.

Minish
"Never the Least."
Old Hylian: "Alne le Munt."
Capital of Minish
High Town
Full name: Capital of Minish, High Town
Leader(s): Ezlo Picori
Town Centre: the Forge
Founded: Middle of the First Age
Current political orientation: Hylian Alliance
Location: Middle of Minish
Geographical advantage: Surrounded both by allies and mountain ranges, it is separated from physical threats in all directions.
Climate: Plains
Weather: Temperate, prone to dry summers and damp winters.
Economy: Good. The war helped its metallurgy industry to grow immensely.
Technology: Advanced.
History: Formed by Hylians that moved in from Kakariko. Time and isolation have made its inhabitants shorter than the average Hylians. If it hadn't been for the amazing craftsmanship and skill of the citizen of High Town, the city would probably have become a ghost town to the rest of the world.
Main races: Hylian, Sheikah, Subrosian
Layout: Built on High Hill, it is much like a medieval fortress, surrounded by a high wall.
Architecture: Considered by most to be the most structurally innovative city in the world, its architecture is eccentric, colourful, and sometimes oddly off-kelter. While it doesn't seem solid, it is elegant, bright, and a little childish in its design.

Waker
"A Hundred Islands, One Ocean."
Old Hylian: "Cente Lislet, Pri Vadit."
Island of Fair Winds
Windfall
Full name: Island of Fair Winds, Windfall
Leader(s): Rutela and Ralis Vadit
Town Centre: Town Hall
Founded: Start of the Third Age
Current political orientation: Hylian Alliance
Location: Northeast of Waker
Geographical advantage: Its position in the relative middle of Waker makes it a necessary stop for all kinds of trade routes, military cargos, flight paths or touristic travelers.
Climate: Ocean, island.
Weather: Ever changing.
Economy: Good. The war allowed it to flourish.
Technology: Advanced.
History: Created in its modern form at the same time as its pendant, it is the commercial opponent of Dragon Roost. Its busy state seems to know no halt, and its importance has steadily been growing over the years, especially since the start of the war. It is now the main base for Hylian Alliance troops in Waker.
Main races: Hylian, Sheikah, Zora, Oocca
Layout: Restricted to the large island of Windfall, the buildings pile over each other, often arching over the spiraling main street that goes all the way up to the top of Windfall Hill.
Architecture: The island's style is that of white plaster and stone, much like most buildings in the Waker archipelago. Slate shingles are common, and the streets are pavec with stone and cement. Trees, plants and flowers are important to the island, so a lot of public gardens are arranged on the rock promontories all around the island.
Beacon of the Gods
Dragon Roost
Full Name: Dragon Roost, Beacon of the Gods
Leader(s): Prince Komali Feathers
Town Centre: The Volary
Founded: Start of the Third Age
Current political orientation: Guardian Alliance
Location: One of the larger islands in the West Waker, south of the Forsaken Fortress.
Geographical advantage: Its tall peak offers a perfect view on the ocean for miles and miles around.
Climate: Ocean
Weather: Generally good, windy. Sometimes prone to mild rainstorms.
Economy: Good. Focused on trading and transport.
Technology: Average.
History: A relatively young city, Dragon Roost was founded by the Ritos, who desired a place to call their own; it was partnered with Windfall, but due to recent circumstances, all trade with the east has broken off. It has become the stronghold of the Guardian Alliance in Waker.
Main races: Rito, Gerudo, Hylian
Layout: The city is actually a large and elaborate set of galleries and carved caves inside a high, towering, dormant volcano. The highest point, at the peak, is used as a launching pad and beacon. Take-off and landing platforms extend out of the huge needle-like mountain in all directions.
Architecture: In spite of its almost troglodyte form, Dragon Roost is quite elegant and well decorated. A lot of light enters the galleries at all times, giving it a daylit look in spite of its cave origins. The outside structures are a mix of metal and cement, well-armed but still surprisingly delicate-looking, extending over the sea in arches and curves.
Outset Island
Full name: Outset Island
Leader(s): Mayor Bo
Town Centre: Docks
Founded: Middle of the Third Age
Current political orientation: Hylian Alliance
Location: South-easternmost end of Waker
Geographical advantage: It remoteness makes it unappealing to the masses or unimportant for military occupation; its proximity to Termina's waters gives good trade routes with Great Bay.
Climate: Ocean, island.
Weather: Hot and sunny all year long.
Economy: So-so. Based on trade with nearby islands and Great Bay.
Technology: Average.
History: Most uneventful, it is renowned to be a very peaceful and pacifistic island. Its main occupation remains fishery and trade.
Main races: Hylian, Zora
Layout: Formed by two islands, it is connected by two bridges, one at beach/sea level, and the other at mountaintop level.
Architecture: The houses are built to resist ocean winds and salt; they're built of wood and fronds, but the inside is plaster and stone for strength. Each house has a front porch that faces the sea and a small walled-off garden area. The central huts are near the stone and wood docks, and a lot of the island is shadowed by healthy green palms and tall grass.
Forsaken Fortress
Full name: Forsaken Fortress
Town Leader(s): Ganondorf Dragmire
Town Centre: Headquarters
Founded: Middle of the First Age
Current political orientation: Guardian Alliance
Location: Extreme northwest of Waker; off the coastal Oracle Mountain Range and south of Hyrulian sores.
Geographical advantage: Surrounded by sharp rock formations, storms and 'eternal night', it is difficult to access.
Climate: Ocean.
Weather: Constant and raging storms accompanied by extreme winds.
Economy: Good. Based on military armament purchase and resell.
Technology: Advanced.
History: Built originally by Hylian governments, its purpose was originally to constrain those who did not obey the 2782 First Edict on the Restriction of Magic Use. In time, this fact was lost, and the island fell into uselessness, haunted by shadows that no one could explain. Superstition surrounded the island until it was finally abandoned for good and left to erode circa 3340. Only recently has activity started to animate it again...
Main races: Hylian, Sheikah, Gerudo, Rito
Layout: Built almost unsteadily on Forsaken Rock, the fortress uses every inch of the huge rock rising above the ocean.
Architecture: Unstable in appearance, the fortress seems to rise crookedly into the stormy skies. Its military uses give it a dim, grey look, cold and threatening. The main materials are stone, cement and metal, a lot of which needs to be regularly replaced or reinforced, abused as they are by the weather.

Holodrum
"Always Ahead."
Old Hylian: "Alya Diyune."
Capital of Holodrum
Horon City
Full name: Capital of Holodrum, Horon City
Town Leader(s): Onox Gorgon
Town Centre: The Dockyards and Horon Palace
Founded: End of the Second Age
Current political orientation: Guardian Alliance
Location: West-central fields of Holodrum
Geographical advantage: Removed from the rest of Hylia, it is hard to access without being stopped by troops.
Climate: Plains
Weather: Plagued by acid rains caused by smog and pollution, the air is hard to breathe due to the absence of greenery.
Economy: Booming. It is the centre of all military expenses of the Guardian Alliance; though that doesn't prevent beggars from proliferating on the streets.
Technology: Advanced.
History: Originally a quiet city like any other, it eventually became an industrial place brought on by the technological boom of the Third Age. Due to an absence of urban planning, the buildings and infrastructures grew like cancer and turned Holodrum into a massive pestilent industrialized city.
Main races: Hylian, Gerudo, Rito
Layout: Grid-like, stretching far into grimy suburbs and high into the skies.
Architecture: It has lost its picturesque charm and now looks like a huge amalgam of steel and cement. Unattractive, it is like any booming city. Some find it impressive, especially because of its stunningly modern and futuristic public transport system, though it is avoided like the plague by those who like peace and nature.
Desert Town of
Samasa
Full name: Desert Town of Samasa
Town Leader(s): Crime lords
Town Centre: The market
Founded: End of the Second Age
Current political orientation: Guardian Alliance
Location: East of Holodrum, south-west of Hyrule's town of Gerudo
Geographical advantage: Overlooking the desert pass from Holodrum to Hyrule; large underground complexes and caves
Climate: Desertic, mountain
Weather: Windy, very hot; sandstorms are common.
Economy: Good; mostly a centre for reselling and purchasing stolen goods.
Technology: Medium-advanced.
History: Originally a small hideout for a group of thieves, Samasa grew into a large burg of black market trade and illegal activities. While considered a town of Holodrum, it doesn't recognise leaders or politicians. The civil war is beneficial to Samasa.
Main races: Hylian, Gerudo, Twili, Rito
Layout: Sprawling from the dry desert to the mountain cliffs above, hubs are connected by narrow strips of needle-turn roads on the cliffs; the rest of the city is relatively flat. The underground complexes are extensive.
Architecture: Stone, cliff-side formations; ground-level buildings are a mix of metal and rock; many mountain-level buildings were carved straight into the cliffs. Basic and utilitarian, they do not focus on beauty, but rather on practicality.

Labrynna
"Always Beginning."
Old Hylian: "Alya Diyureu."
Capital of Labrynna
Lynna City
Full Name: Capital of Labrynna, Lynna City
Leader(s): Queen Ambi
Town Centre: The Black Tower
Founded: End of the Second Age
Current political orientation: Guardian Alliance
Location: Labrynna plains, middle of the country
Geographical advantage: Its out-of-the-way location prevents it from being a target for attacks.
Climate: Plains
Weather: Warm, with few seasonal variations.
Economy: Good; its affiliation with the Guardian Alliance and Holodrum keeps it afloat.
Technology: Average.
History: Never a source of sudden changes, Lynna is mostly known for its Black Tower, which was never completed. Built by enslaved hands during the Third Age, it is said that a love story prevented its bloody completion. No further details are known, but Queen Ambi of Labrynna has made the few levels into a monument into her palace, while the rest serves as a museum denouncing slavery.
Main races: Hylian, Gerudo, Rito, Oocca
Layout: A rather ordinary city, stretched on the hills. The Black Tower rises south of the city.
Architecture: Waker and Holodrum cultures mix in Lynna, where one can find rather rustic dwellings inspired by oceanside climates and modern metallic structures of Holodrum influence. It is mostly set to show off the magnificent Labrynna flora, and so it is not unusual for the roofs to be flat, in order to grow flowers and private gardens.
Ocean Town of
Crescent
Full Name: Ocean Town, Crescent
Leader(s): Mayor Tokay
Town Centre: Crescent Town Square
Founded: Start of the Third Age
Current political orientation: Guardian Alliance
Location: Labrynna shores, on the Waker Ocean
Geographical advantage: Proximity to the ocean allows for various forms of resources, as well as an easy access to Waker from the mainland.
Climate: Coast, ocean.
Weather: Even, pleasant and warm; not often subjected to storms.
Economy: Bad. The war has taken a heavy toll on this oceanside town whose infrastructures are quite damaged and badly maintained.
Technology: Average.
History: Since its foundation, it has been a fishing town known to offer shelter to a great number of orphans. Though it sought independance when the war loomed, the Guardian Alliance forcefully took it. The people of Crescent have yet to forgive the Guardian Alliance the treatment they received during the seize: the hospital and their many orphanages were razed to the ground without question and great many died. Rumour has it a resistance movement has been festering there, though Guardian Alliance occupation militia has found no solid trail.
Main races: Hylian, Rito, Zora, Sheikah
Layout: A typical town, its main square is the centre of activity, around which many houses are built. The docks on the ocean are connected to the main square by the main road.
Architecture: Pleasant until it was ravaged by the war, Crescent's architecture relies on stone walls with colourful slate rooftops. Houses don't go above three of four stories high, most of them being extensive summer houses and private establishments. Many curves are worked into walls and roofs to preserve coolness and shade in the bright, warm days. Of late, a lot of the buildings have grown decrepit and tired.

Twilight
"Against Darkness We Shine."
Old Hylian: "Necyl Nelusce Eyt Lusceda."
Nightfall
Capital of Twilight
Full Name: Nightfall, Capital of Twilight
Town Leader(s): Princess Midna Black
Town Centre: Palace of Twilight
Founded: End of the First Age
Current political orientation: Guardian Alliance
Location: Middle of Twilight, northwest of Hyrule
Geographical advantage: Isolated, in the middle of vast barren lands; good energetic and mining resources
Climate: Desertic, plain
Weather: Cool, dry, windy.
Economy: Good. Focused on selling Sols, the energetic minerals found only in Twilight underground.
Technology: Advanced.
History: Originally named 'The City of the Exiles', Nightfall was a place for those who were banned from ever returning to Hyrule. It was considered a fate worse than emprisonment, and for a long time the slowly growing city would leaderlessly cower in shame. When a prideful ruler decided to declare himself leader of Twilight and set his foot down in Nightfall, the exiles and the natives, the Twili, gladly accepted it. Over time the country felt a sharp turnabout, becoming disdainful of the world and confident in the hold of the Black royal family, who have become a respected and somewhat feared set of monarchs in the world.
Main races: Twili, Hylian, Gerudo, Sheikah.
Layout: A disarray of houses in the plains, it has little organization. Most streets and avenues lead to the Palace of Twilight, in the middle of the extensive city.
Architecture: Dark, black stone ―the common rock― make angular buildings with geometrical designs in bright colours (mostly red, green and yellow). Many buildings are hover-based and float above the ground. It seems mostly austere and unwelcoming.
